I realize that Microsoft doesn't have the best track record
for reliability and stability (especially of version x.0 products),
but from our experience the release version of .NET really has
been "rock solid" and has had very few bugs. That being said, Microsoft has shipped
the first service pack for the new platform... so everyone
who had been waiting until the first service pack came out
to move to .NET... you can stop waiting!
You can get the update via
Windows Update
(it's listed as a critical update) or download it from the link
below. It's really small, weighing in at a measly 1,186 Kb.
Be sure to read the FAQs - one of which mentions that .NET SP1
is not uninstallable... not that you'd want to uninstall it,
but just FYI.
The few changes are mainly bug fixes, but there is one change to
note: there's been a change in the default machine-level security
policy. For more information see the 3rd link below.
