Attach Files from Interdev to Email Messages Easily
While this is not really an ASP tip, for those of you
who use Visual Interdev and often find yourself needing to
send files to others, it's a real time saver.
You probably already knew that you could associate files within
Visual Interdev with different programs, but did you
know that if you associate them with Outlook that it'll
create a new email message with the selected file
already attached?
This makes the process of sending a file you're working on
to someone via email as simple as can be. Best of all,
it even works with remote files. Interdev will
automatically get a local copy and send it without you
having to download the file manually.
To set this up, simply right click on the file you want
to send and select "Open With...". In the resulting
dialog box click the "Add..." button. Enter the path
to your copy of Outlook
(on my machine it was C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE)
and a Friendly Name that you'll recognize when you go to use it.
Back in the list of programs (which, in the future, you can get to by simply
right clicking and selecting "Open With..."),
click on the entry corresponding to the friendly name you
just entered and a new email message should appear. You'll
notice the new message has the selected file already attached
and is just waiting for you to address it and send it on it's way.
